Chatology from Flexibits is a new app for searching for Messages on your Mac. That’s probably a bit too much for an app which ‘fixes’ things, but if you use iMessage at work, exchanging reference material with your co-workers, then it perfectly makes sense to get this app. It’s also much snappier compared to searching on Messages for Mac.Ĭhatology is a paid app, costing 20$. Search works fine, and the results are highlighted with the search term. If you’re specifically looking for images/links in a chat log, you can filter that way using options in the third pane. You’ll see a three pane layout, showing messages sorted by time. The interface is pretty self explanatory. The app even gets freezed for no reason.įlexibits, the company which made Fantastical, a popular Calendar app for OS X and iPhone – has now released Chatology, a better way to search your chat logs. Most of the times, the chat balloons get misplaced and overlooked. Caseology offers a collection of slim and stylish cases for men and women. Showing the relationship to Messages and Chat was an important element to the design but we also wanted to incorporate science and the idea that Chatology is an extension of the chat experience.

I still, however, prefer that people send me actionable information some way other than messages.I love how Apple baked IM functionality into iPhone’s Messages app instead of building a separate iMessage app. I think I’ve now got this problem more or less wrangled.

On iOS, I can forward a text message to my Omni Mail Drop address. Several weeks ago, Flexibits, developers of Fantastical for Mac and iPhone, announced a new project called Chatology that would finally solve this issue once and for all. So partly as a result of Chatology, I’ve flipped on my initial workflow and now I’m keeping all of my messages. Using Chatology I can isolate these images and put them somewhere more permanent. Another example comes from my wife, who often sends me great pictures via messages. For example, if if you know someone recommended a great Thai restaurant to you in the last month but can’t remember the name of the restaurant or who told you, type “Thai” in Chatology’s search bar and you’ll find it. Using all of this data, you can search your messages several ways. It also remembers when the conversations took place and any pictures or links that may have exchanged. It keeps track of who you’ve chatted with and what was said. Just as I was trying to figure out a new approach to all of this, Flexibits (the same guys that brought us Fantastical) released Chatology.Ĭhatology indexes your messages. It was just too much work deleting messages and it didn’t take me long to realize I might need those deleted messages. At the time, I decided my solution was to start deleting all messages that didn’t require action. I wrote a few months ago about the troubles I have with messages.
